What works for one business may or may not work for another in the case of marketing materials. For example, a business with very few services may not benefit from a product such as a brochure; however, another business with a detailed list of services or procedures would greatly benefit from a brochure. One client of ours is in the business of Home Mortgages. While discussing their services and procedures we helped them determine that a brochure would help make a first meeting with a client go smoothly. How, you ask? By providing a brochure to a potential new client that helped educate them on what services the company offered, what the new client would be expected to bring to a first meeting, and even a sample application so the client could feel confident walking into their first meeting. Now that first meeting doesn't have to turn into a hopeful second meeting that may or may not happen. Instead, business can be taken care of the first time around.
Make sure your printed materials clearly represent what your business does. This includes the name of your business and your business cards. You don’t want to hear the question, “Your business does what?” being asked by your client. Take a hard honest look at the printed materials you are handing out to current and prospective clients alike. Ask others to tell you what the materials say to them. Their perception will give you insight to how others see your company. If the feedback you receive lets you know you are right on target, good for you. In this case keep this theme in all of your printed materials. If however this turns out to be an eye opening experience, ask us for help.
